Synopsis:

  1. MESSAGES FROM PARADISE tells about migration from the perspective of dreams and imagination. It is an attempt to bring these often unfulfilled dreams in contact with each other, a fictive dialogue and an indirect confrontation between young Egyptians and Egyptian migrants in Vienna.

A press conference was held at 7 pm followed by handing out certificates to the workshop participants, and screening of the 4 Documentaries produced by the workshop at 8 pm.

Caravan Creativity Workshop was held under the theme "The Self & The City" to give a chance to youth interested in filmmaking deprived of the direct contact with the rest of the world, to exercise the art of documentary filmmaking. The workshop was also meant to help young talents to explore, through their films, themselves and the new place (the City), as well as to communicate with European experts. The time of the Workshop was a challenge for the participants who have to give simple and alternative solutions.

"Children In Street Situations …. A Society's Responsibility"

Under the theme of "Children In Street Situations …. A Society's Responsibility", an open day was organized In Child Park in El-Sayda Zienab, Kadry St. Saturday February 23rd from 11 am till 6 PM
The Day included several Activities:
- Painting & Art Workshops & Games for Children
- Performances
- Theatre Performances & Storey Telling
- Book Exhibit
- Film Screening Program (Documentary & Cartoon)
- A Panel & Discussion

The Film screening program organized by SEMAT included a programme of short documentaries tackling the situation of street children in Egypt

This year SEMAT also produced a documentary called "Our Children" documenting the 1st day held on the 23rd of February, "The First day for supporting street children

Knocking The Doors

SEMAT's first feature

SEMAT is holding a press conference Wednesday January second at 7 pm to announce the beginning of the shooting of SEMAT's first feature, after producing numerous short narratives and documentaries which won many awards.
The film is directed by five young directors graduated from The Higher Institute of Cinema who are Heba Yousry, Omar Khaled, Shady George, Shady Fakhry, and Nagi Ismael who is also the script writer.
The main role is played by Yousra El Lozi, who acted in the feature "Alexandria – New York" with director Youssef Chahin, 3 years ago. Along with Ayah Mahmoud Himada, Yafa Gobran, Ahmed Abdel Wahab, Nesma El Batal & Ahmed Magdi. "Knocking the Doors", is five separate but linked stories directed by five young directors in a new and different experiment.
The press conference will be held at SEMAT in the presence of the director Hala Galal, the Producer of the film.

In an over populated city, areas are built randomly In a chaotic manner, little rooms set wall to wall with ceilings made of wood or even plastic bags, filled with families living maybe more than 8 in one room these conditions expel children, they run off to be faced with greater dangers, the way people look at them as a plague, but why are we bothered by them? Is it because we're partially responsible for their misery?

Meen Agdaa? (Who’s more worthy?)

Finding it hard to find jobs matching their education, three young men struggle to achieve themselves in unpromising jobs. Met by everyday hassle they go into a fantasy-like battle with fog, while others sit at coffee shops waiting for the once in a lifetime opportunity that never comes.

Bethooven's Echo

A mute old lady playing the piano, using the symphony to remember old memories of dates with her lover when they listened to the same Symphony for Beethoven, the music remains playing within her in spite of her being mute, giving her a feeling of happiness when she hears it from within.

A Field Beyond

An owner of a restaurant, overwhelmed by details dreams of having a break in the simplicity of pure Mother Nature. He talks about his dream to his only friend; the poor deaf-pretending man nicknamed Beethoven, and decides to travel with him for a short vacation.

SEMAT was established on October 2001, supporting independent cinema and encouraging youth to create their own images, rhythms and thoughts on screen.

SEMAT members are people working in the artistic field, interested in supporting the development of art, culture and education, cooperation and exchanges in and between Egypt and the whole world.

SEMAT 's main goal is to capacitate a new generation of filmmakers by supporting productions, held screenings, and issued a magazine specialized in the affairs of independent cinema.

SEMAT was established as a vehicle for the interaction between the cinema organizations and young filmmakers and independents movements in Egypt.
